Als Hauptdarsteller in Kleins zweitem Fotobuch „The Fabulous Emotion – Retired Automobiles of North America“ stehen wieder morbid-schöne Schrottauto-Szenen im Mittelpunkt.

The idea for the ambitious USA project
was created after Klein had found out during his research in 2014 from an auction in Enid, Oklahoma, where a complete scrap yard was to come under the hammer within a day. The time window was short, but Klein was still there before the irretrievable treasures were auctioned off. It took several trips between 2014 and 2016 to examine the entire North American continent as a whole. Klein’s deepest wish was to publish a new book.
As the main protagonist in Klein’s second photo book „The Fabulous Emotion – Retired Automobiles of North America“, morbidly beautiful scrap car scenes are once again in the spotlight. Klein found individual items in magnificent countryside and secluded places with up to 8000 vehicles, he discovered private scrap yards where nothing is sold, ghost towns where car treasures are slumbering in dilapidated garages and private plots where cars are kept in the high grass as part of family history.

The author comes across people everywhere who run these places out of pure hobby or leave the vehicles to their natural decay, nature and weather. Many of the owners have commemorated the automobile as a symbol of mobility and individual freedom throughout the United States.

While today’s young people are looking for their freedom and individuality on unlimited data highways instead of lonely highways with speed limits, 100 years of automotive tradition in silent secrecy are turning to iron oxide – nature gives, but it also takes! But it is precisely this epoch that does not simply disappear – as without trace as the legendary Atlantis. Even the early beginnings can still be discovered. You just have to take a closer look, like Dieter Klein!
